Wisdom OR Folly?

Memory Verse: "...more valued is a little wisdom than the great glory of the foolish." (Eccl.10:1, BBE)

Scripture Reading: Eccl.10:1-20

Our actions and decisions have impact, not only on ourselves but on others, and the world around us. Our Scripture reading encourages that we can think about this impact like the fragrance of a thing. In one way or another, the impact lingers. Like the attractive bouquet of an expensive perfume, or a decidedly repulsive odour.

The bible pictures wisdom like the "ointment of the perfumer." This is pleasant, with a magical appeal. A fragrance that can lift our spirits, enhance our lives, and make the world a more beautiful, enjoyable place. This is the byproduct of God's wisdom, which gives us perspective and hope. It shines a light on our circumstances and reveals where we should walk (and what we should avoid). It helps us feel good about life, and ourselves.

This is not "intelligence" or just a collection of information. This wisdom only comes from God. It changes us in positive ways, enabling us to understand the world as He sees it. And it impacts everything we do and helps us make the right decisions.

But the bible also warns of the harmful impact of "a little folly," using the graphic description of dead flies. They can ruin even the most satisfying of odours. What was designed to smell wonderful becomes a source of irritation and ugliness. Instead of attracting, it repels.

This is what happens when we allow our lives to be corrupted by "a little folly."

In your life, stay on guard against the poisoning impact of "a little folly." Remember, it doesn't take much to tarnish the beautiful things God has given you. Just a little folly here and there. Seek godly wisdom: the kind that only Daddy gives. Fill your mind with His Word. Seek Him through prayer and become more sensitive to His Spirit.

It is my prayer that your last act of folly will be the last. I stand as the child of my Father and I ask that its consequences be averted on the grounds of mercy. Today, I decree that God will hold you by His mighty hand and lead you forever on the path of wisdom in Jesus name, Amen.

Ponder Point: The level of fear you have for God determines the level of His wisdom you'll operate in.

Action Point: Walk in the fear of God.

Prayer Point: Father, I realize from your word that sin corrupts godly wisdom. Help me to walk in the fear of the true God so Your wisdom can flow through my life in Jesus name, Amen.
