Come, Walk with Me!

Memory Verse: "Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him." (Gen.5:23-24, NLT)

Scripture Reading: Col.2:1-23.

I kept imagining God say, 'Hey, can we go on a walk together?' while putting the above picture quote together. And as I put this together, I still hear the same words. God wants to walk with me. You. Us.

If we have received Christ himself in our inmost hearts, our new life will manifest relationship, communion and fellowship with Him by a walk  of faith with Him.

What does walking with God imply? Here's what I learnt:
  • Walking with God implies Action.
Our relationship with God is not one to be confined to our closet; we must carry out into practical effect that which we believe. If a man walks in Christ, then he must act as Christ would act; for Christ being in him, his hope, his love, his joy, his life, he becomes the reflection of Jesus and men would say of such a one, "He is like his Master. He lives like Jesus Christ." The point is, it is high time our actions begin to line up with our words.
  • Walking with God signifies Progress.
Sweets, let's think about this, 'How can we say we are walking (like putting one step in front of another) without some form of advancement? Do we call that walking? I bet the answer's no. It's the same thing with our walk with God. We should be seen making visible progress (growth) in our christian walk. If you are still the same person you were before you got born again, you are wrong! It simply means, you are not progressing. Therefore, say I unto us, "Let's keep proceeding from grace to grace, running forward and upward until we reach the uttermost degree of knowledge that a man can attain concerning Jesus Christ."
  • Walking implies Continuance.
There must be perpetual abiding in Christ. Remember the man, Enoch? Good. We shouldn't think that in the morning and evening we ought to come into the company of Jesus, and then give ourselves to the world all day. This would amount to poor living. We too, like Enoch should always be with Him, treading in His steps and doing His will from our hearts.
  • Walking also implies Habit.
A habit can be defined as, "A routine behaviour that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously." A meditative look at point 3 above would help our understanding of this last point. In simple terms, we walk with God continually and therefore, walking with God becomes our habit. Now, if we sometimes enjoy Christ, and then forget him; sometimes call Him ours, and other times we lose our hold, that is not a habit; we are not walking with Him. We must keep to Him, cling to Him, never let Him go, but live and forever have our being in Him.

In conclusion, "As ye have therefore  received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him" is the central theme for today's message to us. Let us persevere in the same way in which we have begun, and as at the first, Christ Jesus was the truth of our faith, the source of our life, the principle of our actions, and the joy of our spirit, so let Him be the same till life's end; the same when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, and enter into the joy and the rest which remain for God's people.

Ponder Point: The point of walking with God is to keep going.

Action Point: Let your walk with God be characterized by action, progress, continuance and habit.

Prayer Point: Holy Spirit, power my walk with God. Enable me to obey this heavenly precept of walking with You in Jesus name, Amen.
