Follow Through

Memory Verse: "Endings are better than beginnings. Sticking to it is better than standing out." (Eccl.7:8, MSG)

Scripture Reading: 2 Tim.4:6-8.

Why is doing harder than talking?

We tend to have lots of talkers and less doers. It breaks my heart everytime I get to meet someone that had dreams that never left his head. My heart bleeds at the sight of one that had great ideas and visions that never left paper form. Oh, how about people that actually started but are not able to follow through because they were distracted by seemingly 'nice' things.

Many people love to make a big deal of a really good idea. Yet they seem to forget that an idea, no matter it's potential for greatness does not mean anything unless there is some kind of drive to make it happen. Many of us start projects that we never get around to finishing. Perhaps we do not finish because we realized early on that it was not our gift. It is okay as long as we own up to that truth and not make it habit.

Sometimes we do not follow through because the work to completion is more than what we knew at the beginning. There is the time factor of which the virtue of patience is required, energy depletion, work and family obligations, etc. Some of us never finish because we are lazy and easily distracted from staying on course. Yet there are also those of us who cannot continue because of our lack of faith in God.

If finishing an idea, a project, a calling or continuing a relationship with a person we've promised marriage to keeps nagging our hearts and minds, we need to first get before God. Taking out some time for fasting and prayer will help us to align our motivations and desires with what God wants us to do. Perhaps we were a little off course in our ambitions and emotions—honest prayer and confession before God will bring renewal, clarity and direction.

After spending time with God, Who sends His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth (see Jn.16:13), we should have a better sense of what we are to do and how we are to complete it. In Christ we live, move, and have our being (see Acts 17:28). He will not let us down, not just to start but more so to finish and finish well, as the Lord is the giver of our strength, wisdom, and ability.

Ponder Point: In the game of golf as in life, it is follow through that makes the difference.

Action Point: Follow through.

Prayer Point: Dear Lord, I am tired of wasting time and not completing what You have called me to do. Renew a right spirit within me to finish what I started in Jesus name, Amen.
