[Faith] Beyond Opinions and Traditions of Men.

Memory Verse: "So that your faith might be based not on man's wisdom but on the power of God." (1 Cor.2:5, BBE)

Scripture Reading: Mk.5:21-43.

The ministry of Jesus did not have the approval of the religious leaders. They questioned His authority, and challenged His theology, even accusing Him of being in league with Satan.

Jairus, a synagogue official, would have been one of those leaders. In his position he selected those who would read and teach, and made sure everything was done in the approved way.

But, when his daughter became ill, suddenly Jairus became willing to put everything aside, even the traditions he had been taught, and his own personal reputation. It didn't matter what others thought of him, or if the religious establishment disagreed with Jesus.

He showed his priorities by falling at Jesus' feet. Realizing that Jesus presented hope, Jairus implored Him to "come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live."

His faith was tested when it was reported that his daughter had died. But Jesus urged him not to be afraid but "only believe." He went to see the girl, took her by the hand and spoke two words. And "immediately the girl got up and began to walk." Everyone was "completely astounded" by this miracle!

How easily we can allow our lives to be dominated by traditions and the opinions of others. We can be closed to the truth, and blind to the revelations God wants to give us. Blocking the flow of His Spirit.

These are moments to put everything else aside, and throw ourselves at Jesus' feet. Not to worry about our traditions and reputation but to bow before Him in humble adoration. Seeking His help. Crying out for His mercy and wisdom. Placing our hope completely in Him. This way, we can confidently say that our faith in God is beyond the opinions and traditions of men.

Ponder Point: Real faith takes it's root from raw encounters with God's word.

Action Point: Seek a raw encounter with God's word so your faith muscles can be built.

Prayer Point: Lord, give me a direct encounter with your word in Jesus name, Amen.
