Run Your Own Race

Memory Verse: "THEREFORE THEN, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us."

Scripture Reading: 1 Sam.18:1-4.

Covenant friendship and relationships are great but the reality of life is this: YOU are absolutely responsible for the outcome of your life. Nobody owes you anything: not even your parents.

You may be in covenant relationship with a great person; that however does not guarantee the fulfillment of your glorious destiny. If you are going to fulfil your glorious destiny in Christ, you must take personal responsibility for your life, 100%!

If it's going to be, it is up to you.

Jonathan and David were great covenant friends. They loved and were committed to each other. However while David was standing with God, Jonathan was standing with Saul his father- a man from whom the Spirit of the LORD had departed and he had now become an enemy of God (See 1 Sam.28:16-17)

Jonathan came to encourage David and to strengthen him in his distress. He told David he was going to be king, and that he, Jonathan was going to be his vice! Good words. But while David stayed with God to work out the fulfillment of his destiny, Jonathan returned to the comfort of the God-forsaken palace of Saul, hoping that his destiny would be fulfilled some how! How wrong! Jonathan died in battle with his father whom he continued to identify with (1 Sam.31:1-13) while David became the anointed King of Israel and ofcourse, he had to pick another Vice! That will not be you. But you have take responsibility.

Allow God's word provoke you this morning to positively inspired action. What do you have to get out of in order to fulfill your destiny? Who do you have to separate from, like Abraham separated from Lot, for the Word of the LORD to him to be fulfilled- Gen.13:14-18. What do you have to do? What price do you have to pay? What pain do you have to bear? What sacrifices do you have to make? It is up to you to decide. It is my prayer that you will enjoy the guiding hand of the LORD into the fulfillment of your destiny in Jesus name.

Ponder Point: [Relationship] choices are the hinges of destiny. It is not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are.

Action Point: Accept responsibility. Make wise choices.

Prayer Point: O Lord, grant me the courage required to pay the price for the fulfillment of my glorious destiny in Jesus name, Amen.
