[The Secret] To A Great Start and Finish

Memory Verse: "And Solomon loved GOD and continued to live in the God-honoring ways of David his father..." (1 Kgs.3:3, MSG)

Scripture Reading: Ps.1:1-6

No doubt, Solomon had a great start!

He began his reign with a sincere plea for God's wisdom and favour to rule God's people. Somewhere along the way, that sense of dependence on God began to erode. The turning point in his life seemed to be after the temple and palace were built. His focus on God's glory seemed to have evolved into a focus on his own glory. And things were never the same again.

Solomon was in danger of self-sufficiency and this created a distance in his relationship with God.

Our dependence on God brings enormous blessings into our lives, but when those blessings cause us to forget our original dependence, we miss out on the ways God wants to continue blessing us. We lose sight of His presence and like Solomon, turn away from pure devotion to God.

Solomon ended up worshipping in pagan altars and wondering why life seemed so empty (See the Book of Ecclesiastes); not because his wisdom wasn't valid but because he outgrew his dependence on God.

One lesson we can draw from Solomon's mistake so we can qualify to begin well and also end better in life and with God is that: we must consciously remain desperate for God, even in our times of abundance.

Incase you're not aware: God loves to feel needed. Make Him feel needed.

This is the secret to having a great start and finish in life. As you begin this new month, always remember that God loves to feel needed.

Ponder Point: The very attitudes that qualified us for God's blessings are the same attitudes required to commit God to continue blessing us.

Action Point: Be God-dependent.

Prayer Point: Father, keep me from whatever level of greatness that will cause me to outgrow my need for You in Jesus name, Amen.
