Trusting God Made Easy (VI)

Memory Verse: "Prove all things; hold fast to that which is good." (1 Thess.5:21, KJV)

Scripture Reading: Eph.4:14-16.

Trusting God is getting easier! Here's a sixth:

  • You do not have to believe everything you think.
Okay.

Let this settle.

So an unhelpful thought popped into your head. It may have come from the world, or from your mind, or from the doctor, or from something you encountered earlier in the day or from just anywhere! But sweetheart, that doesn't mean you have to believe it. Kick that thought to the curb and move on to thinking and believing life-infusing and faith-building thoughts.

God wants to help us tremendously in this area, especially in our day where various comments and ideas are usually flying at us every second.

Think about the problems that are caused when people put up all of their thoughts on social media. It doesn't take long before they wish they had not been so quick to post a particular comment.

Let me drive this point home by using the analogy of the nasal hair. What is its function? One major function amongst other functions is to help filter foreign particles from entering the nasal cavity. Is that correct? Good. Likewise, the thoughts we let into our hearts must be filtered using the word of God. Contrary thoughts constitute foreign particles which of course shouldn't be allowed into our hearts. They will choke our faith which will automatically make trusting God difficult, if not impossible.

Take in the meat and spit out the bones. And if you are like me, there sure will be plenty of bones (contrary thoughts) to spit out on any given day.

Ponder Point: "Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. (Rm.12:12, AMP)

Action Point: Before you let any thought settle in your heart, use the filter of  God's word.

Prayer Point: Father in the name of Jesus, I receive the discipline required to filter the thoughts I allow into my heart with Your word. So help me God, Amen.
