Stop Looking Behind

Memory Verse: "Jesus said to him, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back [to the things behind] is fit for the kingdom of God." (Lk.9:62, AMP)

Scripture Reading: Is.43:18-19.

Can you imagine how difficult life would be if we all walked forward but looked behind us? We would run into doors, buildings, and other people all the time. Our walk from one point to another would be difficult, and we would get to our locations with bumps and bruises. In the same manner, our Christian journey is not constantly looking back and asking ourselves "what if."

This does not mean that we should not learn lessons from our past or that we should not be remorse or seek forgiveness from those we have hurt. Rather, it is a choice to trust God with our past, present, and future. Many of us would love to go back to the past and make better decisions. It would be awesome to have a "redo" in past relationships, financial decisions, or career choices.

However, God uses our good, bad, and ugly decisions to develop us to be more like Jesus Christ. He is more than able to heal us of our past mistakes and guide us towards a more successful future in the Lord. If we hold onto the past and constantly replay what we should have or could have done, we might miss our day of opportunity to do better in the future.

There is nothing impossible because the Lord has provided everything we need to be successful spiritually, emotionally, and physically in this world. We need to draw close to Him in prayer and study of His word so we can clearly sense His direction over our lives.

We cannot run from our past, but we can learn from it to do better with our future choices. Because we walk with the Lord, we are going to be led in the right direction. Receive grace to focus ahead and keep pressing forward.

Ponder Point: God has great things in store for those who have shifted their focus from what was to what can be.

Action Point: Look forward.

Prayer Point: Dear Lord, You are my hope for the future. I cannot redo my past. Help me Lord to keep pressing towards the great future You have in store for me in Jesus name, Amen.
