The Power of Thanksgiving

Memory Verse: "But one of them, seeing that he was healed, returned and, with a loud voice, gave glory to God. He fell facedown  at His feet, thanking Him. And he was a Samaritan." (Lk.17:15-16, KJV)

Scripture Reading: Lk.17:11-19.

These two powerful words: 'Thank you.'

I'm blessed with two younger sisters. Every time they come to me with their requests, only one returns saying those two words. Short but powerful. The one that returns understands the power of thanksgiving. She not only has an attitude of thanksgiving, she also knows how to put it to action - by saying it.

If there is one thing the Holy Spirit dropped in my spirit this morning while pondering on our memory verse, it is the distinguishing difference between prayer and thanksgiving. He said, 'Coming is the attitude to prayer (making requests) while returning is the attitude of thanksgiving.'

Many come. Only few return!

In Luke 17, out of ten lepers healed by Jesus, only one returned to say thanks. I am sure that the other nine (just like my other sister) had (has) an attitude of thanksgiving but never applied (apply) their gratitude.

Be the one who returns.

Sweet, if there's one thing you must know: God expects your thanksgiving. It's a debt we owe Him and we must pay! Please checkout Mal.2:1-4!

There's so much power in thanksgiving. Thanksgiving should be the theme song of the believer. We should have thanksgiving flowing from our lips daily. The people we connect with should be soaked with thanks, because we are overflowing with thanksgiving (see Col.2:6-7).

Thankfulness overflows if we have deep roots in Jesus Christ and if we build our lives around Him. As believers, if we are over-full with God, then we overflow with thanksgiving. Otherwise, we are just ungrateful.

When we overflow with thankfulness, it shows in everything: our speech, attitude and actions. We are first thankful to God and then thankful for other things. We are even thankful for the tough times.

The Bible admonishes, "Do not withold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act." (Prov.3:27)

No more witholding blessing and thanksgiving from God. Enough of just coming. We must start returning in thanksgiving.

Today, being November 1, 2016 is a good day to return. As you return today, don't stop returning. Let returning become your lifestyle and I can assure you, it's power (talking about its many wonders) will be unleashed in your life.

Ponder Point: Unspoken gratitude is expressed unthankfulness.

Action Point: Be a person who's given to thanksgiving.

Prayer Point: Dear Lord, I have been coming and I'm guilty of not returning. Having received this light, I consciously return and enter into a covenant with You to keep returning. As I return, let the power of thanksgiving be unleashed in my life in Jesus name, Amen.
