The Importance of Spiritual Exercise

Memory Verse: "I pray that because of the riches of His shining-greatness, He will make you strong with power in your hearts through the Holy Spirit." (Eph.3:16, NLV)

Scripture Reading: Eph.3:1-20.

If you’ve ever worked out for a period of time, or trained for a race, you will begin to notice changes in your body.

The more you run, the more you lift, the more you’re active, the more you begin to feel different. Your body feels stronger, your endurance improves, and you feel more alive.

The point is, even if you have never worked out a day in your life, you likely have some understanding that physical activity (exercise) improves your health to a certain extent (see 1 Tim.4:8).

The same thing happens when it comes to our walk with God.

First off, please understand that walking with God is a spiritual exercise in itself. Our inner being is  strengthened. We find our strength in the Lord when we are walking with Him.

This  is  why  we fast. This is why we pray.  This  is  why  we study and meditate on His word. This is why we praise. This is why we worship. And this is why we do the many things that we do.

All of these things put together can be summed up as our spiritual workout (exercise) and these exercises keep us fit spiritually.

This way, we grow. We build spiritual weight. Our spiritual energy and stamina increases. And ofcourse, our spiritual muscles get developed too. This is what our memory verse is talking about. In simple terms, spiritual exercise keeps your mind in shape just as physical exercise keeps your body in shape.

Sweetheart, let's make spiritual exercise an important part of our lives while we consciously submit to the Holy Spirit as our Coach and Trainer. I promise and I can bet my life on this, your walk with God will become better as long as you remain consistent.

Ponder Point: Spiritual fitness is not a destination. It is a way of life.

Action Point: Train yourself to be godly by engaging in spiritual exercise daily.

Prayer Point: Lord by Your Spirit, help me to train myself in spiritual exercise so I can become a godly person in Jesus name, Amen.
